Statistics in tourism and trade is a complex and multi-profile field of knowledge. Statistics focuses on practically every sphere of human life and activity, from the need to consume goods and services to the need for rest, recreation, history, etc. In contemporary conditions, the interaction of trade and tourism can be considered as the strongest interdependence between activities.
In order to understand the full complexity and variety of tourism and trade phenomena, a statistical characterisation is required using an arsenal of methods and techniques of analysis in time, space or mode of organisation. The statistical information obtained through the analysis of multiple interdependencies often contains concrete points of view, making it easier to understand the phenomena as a whole. In order to characterise them, a certain system of indicators is needed to facilitate the process of observing, processing and analysing statistical data. This is particularly important for short, medium and long-term policy-making.
To this end, this paper interferes with the content and structure of a teaching material by following the research steps as follows:
- - identified the object, tasks and theoretical basis of services in general and tourism and commercial services in particular
- - an exposition, in a logical sequence, of statistical indicators in tourism and trade: content, classification, calculation methodology and analysis is presented
- - an overview of the phenomena and processes in the tourism or trade sphere is provided through statistical analysis of national tourism activity and foreign trade.
